Utah's hot springs are scattered, so plan around the drive. Near the Wasatch Front, Fifth Water Hot Springs in Diamond Fork Canyon is the famous hike, Saratoga Hot Springs sits beside Utah Lake, and Midway has Homestead Crater, a limestone dome with a pool inside. North of Salt Lake, Crystal Hot Springs in Honeyville is a long-running commercial complex with pools, tubs and water slides.
Central and southern Utah is quieter. Mystic Hot Springs and Red Hill Hot Spring both sit near Monroe, one a rustic paid resort with bathtubs and pools, the other a free set of natural pools below a red mineral mound. Meadow Hot Springs near Fillmore has deep travertine pools, Baker Hot Springs is a remote desert soak west of Delta, and Zion Canyon Hot Springs in La Verkin is the newest big resort.
Winter brings ice on the Fifth Water trail, and warm months bring rattlesnakes and desert heat at remote sites like Gandy Warm Springs and Baker. Some of the free springs sit on private land, so follow posted rules. Our tip: Meadow's pools are over 20 feet deep, so non-swimmers should wear a life jacket, and untreated water should never be swallowed.
