Annual closure of the trail May 15 to September 30 (2024 notice; same dates on the NPS trail page updated May 2026), plus extra heat closures such as April 2025 after a hiker death. Fecal bacteria closure was lifted after cleanup. No other 2025-2026 closures found as of Oct 2026; trail should be open now (season reopens Oct 1), but check NPS before going.
Park Service has reported Naegleria fowleri (brain-eating amoeba) in hot springs below Hoover Dam: avoid diving, splashing or submerging your head. The area was closed in 2023 for high fecal bacteria after visitors dammed the flow with sandbags; alterations are not permitted. Strenuous unmaintained route with a 20-foot ladder, flash flood risk in the canyon, no water at the trailhead, and extreme heat (heat deaths and rescues led to closures in April 2025).
